'CR9' must not be distracted by thoughts of going to the World Cup, or rather not going...

Manuel Pellegrini has sought to alleviate some of the pressure on Cristiano Ronaldo after Jorge Valdano said on Thursday that the Portuguese winger would be feeling anxious about Portugal's World Cup fate.

Portugal are currently in third place in Group 1, two points behind second placed Sweden with two games to go.

"It should not affect him," the Real Madrid coach assured AS.

"Although the international players come back with an emotional and physical burden, [Portugal] are a side that are fighting for qualification to the World Cup.

"They are not eliminated, so I don't think it will affect Cristiano's mood."

The tactician also revealed that Sergio Ramos would not make his comeback from injury until next weekend at the earliest, while the fatigue of the international stars at the club does not concern him due to los Blancos' strength in depth.
