Goal shower in fifth consecutive victory
Real Madrid 3-0 Tenerife
Fifth consecutive victory for the Whites in La Liga this evening by defeating Tenerife 3-0 at the Bernabeu. Benzema (2) and Kaka were the goal-scorers. Tenerfe fought hard and proved they may be an important side this year.
Manuel Pellegrini applied his rotation system again and benched Kaka in favour of Granero, given that the Brazilian was the only player who had been a starter in all of the team's previous games. Pepe returned to the starting lineup in La Liga after a ten-match suspension. Alonso also made his return after recovering from his recent injury.
Tenerife looked to keep possession from the start and tried to thwart the Whites' game. The locals found it hard to connect amongst each other in the first half despite Granero and Ronaldo's frequent ventures in attack. Drenthe had the first chance on goal with a hard shot from outside the box on the 2-minute mark. On the other hand, Tenerife grew increasingly dangerous and had several chances on Casillas' goal.
The visiting side always looked for striker Nino to finish off their plays, but they never managed to surprise pepe and Albiol in defence. Real Madrid began to prove dangerous half an hour into the game, when Cristiano shot on target from one of the far corners of the box. His shot was cleared by the keeper and Raul failed to finish off the play (27’). Benzema had a great run down the left wing and shot on goal, but the ball was cleared by the keeper.
