Raul comes ever closer to beating the league's all-time top-scorer
Realmadrid.com / Translation by Manuel Arcedillo
Raul keeps tallying goal after goal. After the one scored on Saturday against Deportivo La Coruña, the captain ranks fifth on the league’s all-time scoring list with 224 strikes, just two goals behind legendary Barcelona player Cesar. Telmo Zarra tops the list with 251 strikes.
Third in the list comes Alfredo di Stefano (227), whom Raul already surpassed as the White’s all-time top-scorer. Hugo Sanchez, another legendary Madridista, is second on the list (234, ten more than Raul). It wouldn’t come as a surprise if the captain left both behind by the end of the current campaign.
Pulling even with Zarra will take more time, though. Raul would have to score 28 goals in the season to tie the legendary Athletic Bilbao player, a figure not yet reached by the captain of the Whites. However, his goal average makes breaking the record just a matter of time, most likely to happen during the 2010/2011 campaign.
