Jorge Valdano: Real Madrid’s Sevilla Defeat Was A 'Thriller'

Jorge Valdano put a positive spin on Real Madrid's first defeat of the season, describing their encounter with Sevilla on Sunday night as "thrilling".

Los Merengues' director general felt that the visitors to the Sanchez Pizjuan could have taken something from the game, and Valdano was full of praise for Madrid and their opponents.

“It could have gone either way until the last minute. It was a thrilling match. The team performed well as a whole and we had our chances," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website.

"Sevilla have improved year after year and their fans stand by them 100 per cent.”

Valdano did admit that he was impressed with Iker Casillas' saves to keep Madrid in the game, but he would not be drawn to comment on Cristiano Ronaldo, who didn't feature.

“Casillas kept us alive with two incredible saves. We win and lose as one," he continued. "It isn't appropriate to talk about players who are unavailable."

Real's loss saw Barcelona move three points clear at the top of the table
